A Suitable Job for a Nudist !

By Liz Egger     In which I investigate ways of earning a living "au naturel". ( From May 2002)

I was reading one of those self-improvement books the other day; you know, where they tell you that you only have to want something badly enough in your life and you will get it? Incidentally, I'm not too sure that this works, because I did all the visualisations and affirmations and everything the book suggested, but the focus of my desire has yet to materialise. Guess I'll have to make do with hubby for a little while longer yet.
Anyway, the basic message of this book was that to be really, truly fulfilled in your life, you have to follow your calling. In other words, find what you most like to do in life, and then just do it.
Now this is of course very sensible advice, but it's not really practicable is it?
I mean, I really like to sunbathe naked on a tropic beach, eating ice cream and sipping Margueritas. But how would I earn a living?
However, this led me to wonder just what sort of jobs are available to those of us who have toyed with the idea of being professional nudists. A little research on the internet revealed that there doesn't seem to be much of a selection...
The most obvious place to start, the nudist clubs and resorts themselves, proved to be the most disappointing. I can't claim that my research was exhaustive - there are literally hundreds of clubs and resorts with their own web-sites these days, but of the several dozen I checked out only one advertised any vacancies.
At the time of writing. Paradise Lakes in Florida USA has, it seems, vacancies for a membership co-ordinator, an activities co-ordinator, entertainers, bar and restaurant staff and hotel housepersons. Hmm... not bad for one club, but not really my scene. But if you're interested check it out at the link given below.
Nude modelling is a far more fruitful - and lucrative - area for the naturist with the right attitude and ...ummm.. attributes, with a truly enormous market demand. However, the bad news for gentlemen nudists is that the real demand is for the female form.
There are over 600 monthly magazines and over 750,000 monthly subscription web sites in the USA alone which feature nude photographs, varying from the adult to the arty without even counting the genuine nudist magazines and sites.
To keep subscribers happy, each one has to publish photos of new girls every month. They can't repeat old images too often and don't like to duplicate images from other magazines and web sites if they can avoid it.
According to a leading online model agency, there is a demand for around 500,000 new young models every year to meet this apparently insatiable demand!
Such is the shortage that Matrix Models, one of the largest nude model agencies in the USA, offer to fund the first 30 day visit to Los Angeles for new British and other European models who want to give it a try, paying up front for return air fares and arranging free hotel or apartment accommodation near the beach.
Unfortunately I think my nude modelling days are long gone, ( unless someone wants to make me an offer! ), but those of us used to a less glamorous lifestyle  there's always nude house cleaning. Sign up with Gant Blanc, Washington DC's Premier Nude House Cleaning Agency Serving Washington DC, Maryland, and Virginia, and you'll have the pleasure of cleaning, dusting and window cleaning other folks' homes in the buff. They're looking for both males and females and best of all you get to keep all the fees for yourself!
You won't find me on their books though. Looking after my own home is tedious enough - cleaning someone else's, especially nude, falls far short of being a calling. But if the idea of being a naked home hygiene operative appeals to you, sign up at http://www.gantblanc.com
And as for me? I guess I'll stick to being a naturist writer. The pay is minimal, but I do get to work with my clothes off !
'Til next time,
Liz
